We are proud to announce the return of Brett Dancer to Portland! And yes, that is his real surname! Originally from Kalamazoo, MI, but now hailing from Baltimore, MD.... a city that has long played an important role in the development of dance music; a place that has always had its own identity, which is uniquely reflected in the productions & club nights from that region (including DC). His highly respected label, ‘Track Mode’ (based in NYC), has been releasing music of a uniformly high standard for over 30 years, and accurately represents his early influences that’ve shaped his own productions and DJing style. He had a clear vision of the consistent quality & talent he wanted to showcase through the label, and has been releasing records by some of the most globally respected artists from Detroit & Chicago; Theo Parrish, Larry Heard, Anthony Shakir, Alton Miller, Boo Williams, & Rick Wade to name a few.
Brett’s Midwest roots go back to Kalamazoo, MI, wherein he was first exposed to Chicago House Music in 1986. Soon thereafter he began working with Jay Denham & Fanon Flowers - gaining valuable production experience in the studio while Denham’s ‘Black Nation’ label was getting more traction in the dance music community. Brett left the Midwest in 1993 - and subsequently started his own label & putting out records of his own. He’s been able to take some of the best elements from each city he’s spent significant time, as well as the different styles / genres of music that cross over within dance music. That is audibly demonstrated in both his DJ sets and his productions, as well as the artists he chooses to work with on his label, or theirs.
Those of you who were in the city during the 90s & early 2000s, may remember some of those amazing Renegade Rhythms parties with Brett Dancer putting on a deep house clinic. We expect nothing less than something exceptional when he comes to town, so be prepared to go on a musical journey, and dance! His style is going to pair really well with this venue; intimate, vibey, and deep. Tom Mitchell (Renegade Rhythms) and Tyson Koski (RR / Sonder Bar Resident) will be holding it down earlier to get the night lubricated. This will be a great kickoff to this year’s Renegade Rhythms 30th Anniversary event series that is just around the corner….so stay tuned. Intimate location, so get your tickets early to ensure entry!
