I Jahbar
(Duppy Gun / Roolingz Muzik / JA)
I Jahbar has been a staple deejay for the L.A. based avant-garde reggae & dancehall label Duppy Gun since it started in 2011. In that year, Ijahbar recorded between Duppy Gun sessions in Portmore, Jamaica with legendary reggae group The Congos for the release of the now-classic psychedelic dub album Icon Give Thank. As the nephew of the The Congo’s member Congo Ashanti Roy, I Jahbar had the confidence and energy to be the spark that lit the Duppy chalice. His acrobatic performance on the twisted Spy Riddim was the verse that launched a thousand bulleted and convinced DG honchos Bigflite & Velkro to start the label. Since building his Spanish Town studio in 2017 I Jahbar has acted as the de facto JA head of DG operations, engineering sessions and contributing a steady stream of new tunes. In 2019, he gathered a clutch of local Portmore MCs to record the album Inna Duppy SKRS Soundclash, a collaboration with Filipino - Canadian dub freaks Seekers International. I Jahbar released his Roolings Musik Allstars label showcase mixtape in 2021 on the London-based swamp dub label Bokeh Versions.
